'Roman Tragedies, by Dutch company Toneelgroep Amsterdam, will blend three of Shakespeare's most famous political plays - Julius Caesar, Antony and Cleopatra and Coriolanus - into one continuous six-hour modern political drama. Fully translated into Dutch with English surtitles and running with no interval, the marathon production invites the audience to move in and out of the auditorium and even go on stage to interact with the actors and multimedia elements. The 'epic' show was on a scale not seen at the Festival since Peter Brook's legendary 1988 production of The Mahabharata, performed over an entire night in the stone quarry in the Adelaide Hills. Roman Tragedies is one of the best theatre shows of the last decade; an immersive contemporary retelling of Shakespeare for the 24-hour news generation. People who see Roman Tragedies will remember it as an Adelaide Festival highlight for years to come.', aldus artistiek directeur David Sefton van het Adelaide Festival.
