Abke Haring (1978) has been one of the Toneelhuis’ permanent theatre-makers since 2010, she writes plays, directs them and acts in them, too. Haring also appears in productions by other directors; she took on the lead role in Hamlet vs Hamlet directed by Guy Cassiers. It won her the Theo d'Or for the best female lead role. She played one of the two lead roles in Bloed & rozen and appeared in Het lied van Jeanne en Gilles, Luk Perceval’s Het kouwe kind and Turista, in Beats, Gerucht, Mefisto for ever, Atropa. De wraak van de vrede, in De indringer, De blinden en De welwillenden. In her own creations the element of physical performance clearly claims its place. That, combined with the distinctive atmosphere and visuals, elicits the term ‘trip theatre’ from the press when describing her work.

Haring had already worked at Toneelhuis, having created Kortstond and Hoop. Haring wrote and directed a new play, HOUT, in which she herself also appeared. A little later FLOU followed and Song#2 with Benjamin Verdonck, TRAINER, a play which “makes economic dominance physically tangible”. In the autumn of 2015, Abke Haring made a solo based on a new script that she wrote herself, UNISONO. In season 16|17 she is acting in De dingen die voorbijgaan and in Grensgeval (Borderline), directed by Guy Cassiers. The kindly ones will be touring in France, Italy in Spain.
