Dewi Reijs (1982) graduated in 2005 as an actress at the Theater Academy in Amsterdam. Since then she has been working as an actress with various companies and she has also played in Heren van de Thee at the Hummelinck Stuurman theater company. Since 2016 Reijs has been playing the role of Oerip in De stille kracht at Internationaal Theater Amsterdam (formerly Toneelgroep Amsterdam) in Antwerp, Moscow, Barcelona, Amsterdam and Paris.
In 2008 she directed her first play, called The Life of Njabala in Kampala, Oeganda. Shortly after she created the familyplay Rafi in the Netherlands. Her play Lucht in de Keukenkastjes was selected for the Hollandse Nieuwe 11 in 2009. A festival for upcoming playwrights.
Her directional film debut Debiel (2015) - about the life of the mentally-impaired girl Rahima - was awarded at the International Children's Film Festival India and the Uhvatiti Film Festival Novi Sad in Serbia. Debiel was also nominated for the Cannes Short Film Corner in 2016. Shortly after Reijs directed the short film Hide Her which was presented at the Dutch Film Festival in 2017.
In addition to her theaterwork, Reijs also played in various TV and film productions, such as: Shouf Shouf, De Regels van Floor, Moordvrouw, A'dam -E.V.A., CMC2, Danni Lowinski and Flikken Maastricht and films as Wolf, Yurei, Dolfje Weerwolfje and Het einde van de wereld. In 2016 Reijs played the part of Anna van Meegeren in the feature film Een echte Vermeer. Here she played the wife of the master forger Han van Meegeren.
In 2017 Reijs founded The Buddy Film Project. This foundation is a starting point, platform and agency for refugee professional filmmakers and creatives. The Buddy Film Project helps the filmmakers getting paid through workshops and film projects.
