To be or not to be: Shakespeare classic seen through the eyes of a new generation.
Hamlet’s father, the king of Denmark, has been murdered. His uncle Claudius is now on the throne and married to Gertrude, Hamlet’s mother. One night, the ghost of Hamlet’s father tells him Claudius is the murderer. Hamlet is at a loss. Is the ghost telling him the truth? Should he avenge his father and kill Claudius? Playing a ruthless game in order to discover the truth, Hamlet will take no prisoners. 25 of Amsterdam’s youths perform their version of Hamlet in the Amsterdam Stadsschouwburg. It is a depiction of the adolescent Hamlet, struggling with truth, death, his mother, love, friendship and, mainly, with himself.
TA-junior has existed for more than ten years. Guided by TA professionals, high school students from Amsterdam rehearse and play adaptations of TA productions for young and old. For many of them, joininn in with –and being guest to- TA, is an experience of a lifetime.
TA-junior is a Dutch-language project, but open to all those who are interested.
