Eelco Smits (1977) has been a member of the ensemble from 2005 till 2019. From season 23|24, Smits is once again part of the ITA ensemble.
In season 24|25 he will perform in the premiere of Giovanni's room, in the remake of Angels in America (director Ivo van Hove) and in the revival of The laws (director Eline Arbo).
Smits played at ITA in Primeval and other times, A little life, Falling man, Roman Tragedies, Kings of war, From the life of the marionettes, May we be forgiven (nomination Louis d'Or), Song from Far Away (written by Simon Stephens especially for Eelco Smits), The glass menagerie (nomination Arlecchino), Antonioni Project, Teorema, Summer Trilogy, Phaedra, Ghosts, Tartuffe, The miser, The Seagull, Mourning becomes Electra, The Russians!, Nora, Hamlet vs Hamlet, Liliom, Opening Night, Mary Stuart, The taming of the shrew, Macbeth, Rocco and his brothers, Britannicus, Oresteia, Perfect wedding, Madame de Sade, Keetje van heilbron and Uncle Wanja.
Smits received the Paul Steenbergen medal in 2018. In 2023, he won the Louis d'Or for his role in History of Violence with Toneelschuur Producties and Toneelgroep Oostpool.
Before he received his permanent position he appeared as a guest player in Keetje van Heilbron and Uncle Wanja. Before he came to TA, Eelco Smits was a member of the Ro Theater. He was on stage with them in Leonce and Lena, Portia Coughlan and as the young Marcel Proust in the impressive theatre cycle In search of lost time.
